Ashtanga yoga utilizes a three-fold approach called Tristhana. Tristhana consists of correct breathing (Ujjayi breathing), yoga postures/asanas (including correct use of the bandhas), and the precise gazing (drishti).
Through this method practitioners develop control of the senses, a deep awareness of themselves and their inner sensations, emotions, and workings of the mind. By maintaining the discipline with regularity and devotion practitioners develop steadiness of body and mind.
We will deconstruct the three folds of tristhana (ujjayi, bandhas, drishti) and become more aware of why and how to integrate them into your practice. We will then apply the tristhana method to the Full Primary series focusing on each fold. The tristhana method is essential to Ashtanga Yoga and its main purpose is purification. Let go of the physical/external and become more mindful/internal to your practice. This will then deepen your practice and open many areas of growth.
