Session 1: The Flowing Tensegrity of Surya Namaskar Movement

 YOKING BREATH AND BANDHAS TO UPGRADE YOUR PRACTICE

 

More than just a great way to heat up the body, the strong movements of the sun salutations develop all the movement and alignment patterns used “throughout

the rest of our Ashtanga practice”. For good or bad.

 

On a deeper level of awareness labelled Felt Sense, a core power of breath and bandhas underlie our usually forceful pumping up the “Tapas”. We willanatomically explore how to organize our Bones + Fascia = Tensegrity, so that deep breath easily integrates our movement, and we truly feel Bandhas move us in meditative flow.

 

Sound’s all great, right? Just be prepared because dismantling the external habits of your ego's “Forceful” ways, subtly grunting● your through a hardening practice, can feel rather demoralizing (the Hala Hala) before real Core Power, the kinesthetic Feel of your Breath/Bandha process is finally allowed to fill you from inside. And whether you’re working through half primary or Advanced A, this deep awareness of easy Surya Namaskar power will change your practice in ways you never imagined.

Session 2: The Floating Stability of the Standing Sequence

 THE GRANTHIS: STRONG BRAHMA ROOTS OPENING OUR VISHNU HEART

 

As goal addicted Westerners, our well-conditioned movement habits have little If Any focus on what Grounding is, much less what it Feels like in our body.  A Blind Ego’s Boredom with the silent, calm power of grounded-ness has accumulated in our Body, Mind and Emotions into a dead feel of “Ignorant Rigidity” and Standing poses are the most effective asana tools we can use to reorganise this, or Not.  Warm and aware from Surya A and B, conscious breathing can reconnect us to the Power the Earth offers and re-establish our kinaesthetic awareness of Live, Floating Stability.

 

Exploring how to Ground our Pelvis into this Earth Energy (the Apana of Brahma Granthi) with deep exhalation (Rechaka Kumbhaka), we may then use the Arms, Head and Dristhi to FIRST, deepen these Roots (Never Enough Grounding).  Only then will Deep Inhalation (Puraka Kumbhaka) open the Shoulder Girdle, Neck, Throat and Face of a hardened Vishnu Granthi, instead of old Ego’s kinaesthetically blind Prana addiction stretching, twisting and pulling our Brahma Roots out….. All for a medicating Endorphine hit (Fast Power Vinyasa anyone ;-) 

 

Getting your Ego to work FOR you in this way is vital prep for the deeper opening in the Primary Series of seated poses, and essential for a grounded kundalini opening of Intermediate Series.

 

 

Session 3: Empowering Core with the Seated Sequence

 SURYA AND STANDING TOOLS SLIDING YOU THROUGH PRIMARY SERIES

 

Now that our Brahma and Vishnu Granthis have a grounded Core relationship from the standing session (Never Enough Grounding ;-) we will deepen and expand our new Earth Power with the formal Primary Sequence of seated poses.

          

With Sitz Bones now on the earth, our Pelvic and Shoulder Girdles, and spine that joins them, are in the best place for deeper opening and Bandha power to grow.  “If Kumbakha now Completes your Exhales”, this deep Bandha Power can squeeze and fold you into these Twisting Forward Bends, open your hips, shoulders and low back, lift you up, back and through your vinyasas.  

 

Incomplete breathing? (couldn’t make it to the Surya and Standing sessions I guess ;-), grunting force is always there to push, pull and pry your bones nonsensically through the torture that will probably keep you stiff for way too long, and probably injure something along the way.  A vicious cycle your blind Ego prefers... But Do You?

 

Come feel how complete breathing can evolve how you move through Primary Series, even having Fun in Supta Kurmasana… and Intermediate will soon be coming.

 

 

Session 4: Flying and Restoring - Intermediate and Finishing Sequences

 OPENING VISHNU GRANTHI to FREE OUR EMOTIONAL BONDAGE 

 

The first half of Intermediate series is about untying Vishnu Granthi (the heart/throat knot) Gradually.  With hips and shoulders open and Moola and Uddyana bandhas quite strong from Primary series, Bramha Granthi is prepared to stabilize all the kundalini energy the backbend sequence and twists will eventually open up.

 

Rather than the premature, mis-assigned, advanced backbend of Urdhva Dhanurasana that mistakenly became the Abrupt Body and SNS torture test for entry into Intermediate Series, Shalabhasana through Supta Vajrasana was the Original, PNS preserving preparation  (Ashtanga Yoga As It WAS) for dropping back, standing up, Tick Tocks, Scorpion and Catching which came much later.  Then, with your nervous system not Blasted wide open, we will finally explore the Allignment and Function of the Deeply Grounding Finishing sequence.
